R&D projects, waste recycling projects and search for reliable partners: what was discussed during the visit of SK Ondeu to Almaty.

The working group of Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu LLP headed by Sheraly Meyr Nurtayuly, the CEO, visited Almaty, where meetings were held with KBTU, the Chevron business unit in Eurasia and Mitsui & Co Ltd in Kazakhstan.   

During the meeting with the Rector and employees of Kazakh-British Technical University JSC (KBTU), Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu LLP presented the progress of the R&D project “Development of chemical technology for the production of bactericidal-fungicidal preparation – hydrophilic colloidal sulfur from domestic raw materials”. This project is dedicated to solving the urgent problem of utilization of lump sulfur and providing agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan with bactericides and fungicides.   

Then KBTU presented its laboratory base, promising developments/projects that have the potential for commercialization.

R&D is one of the factors determining economic progress in the country, and now there is an urgent need to develop this area in Kazakhstan. We are open to establishing relations with scientists and universities in order to consider and implement joint promising R&D projects,” - Meyr Nurtayuly summed up the meeting.

At the meeting with representatives of the Chevron Direct Investment Fund in Kazakhstan, there were discussed issues of ensuring and attracting capital investments for the creation of sustainable and successful petrochemical enterprises that contribute to the development of local content and import substitution and building of trusting, productive, long-term partnerships.

This Fund is a tool through which Chevron plans to contribute to the development of the economy of Kazakhstan by investing in enterprises in various industries, including, but not limited to the production of goods and services in the oil and gas industry with the potential for the development of local suppliers, environmental protection, information technology, including digital technologies.  

The possibilities of cooperation were discussed with representatives of Mitsui & Co Ltd in Kazakhstan within the framework of a project on receiving bioethanol from industrial waste to promote ESG projects in Kazakhstan, as well as a project on receiving a polymer base for the production of sealants, adhesives, etc. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to work out these projects in more detail from the point of view of the economic efficiency of their implementation for both sides.
