On September 30, 2022, a meeting of the project team led by the Chief Executive Officer of Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu LLP, Sheraly Meiyr Nurtaiuly, with Azmeco’s Principal Shareholder, Nizami Nasibovich Piriyev and his representative in Kazakhstan, Ismail Ismiyev, has taken place to consider the possibility of implementing a project for the production of methanol in Kazakhstan.
Methanol - a methyl alcohol (CH3OH) is one of the most important organic products produced by the chemical industry in terms of value and scale of production. It is used for the production of acetic acid, methyl methacrylate, methylamines, formalin, dimethyl ether, formaldehyde, etc.
According to BusinessStat estimates, the global methanol production capacity in 2021 is appraised at 160.6 million tons, while in 2017-2021 the capacity growth amounted to 21.2%. The main regions increasing methanol consumption in the world are the countries of Asia, the Middle East and the CIS.
