More than 70 brands of homopolymers and copolymers will be produced in Kazakhstan

Roman Sklyar, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, spoke about the projects planned for implementation on the territory of the special economic zone “National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark”, Trend reports with reference to Kazinform.

“As of today, 10 participants have been registered on the territory of the NIPT SEZ, of which 1 project has been put into operation (in 2015 – Polymer Production LLP – a project for the production of polymer products), 3 projects are under construction and the remaining ones are at the design stage. As of March 31, 2021, the overall progress of the implementation of the gas chemical complex for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons /year and a cost of USD2.6 billion is 84%. After the launch of this project, 76 brands of homopolymers and copolymers will be produced, which will fully meet the domestic demand and export,” – Roman Sklyar said in his response to the Deputy’s request.

Also, according to him, the construction of the production infrastructure of the NIPT SEZ is at the final stage, which includes projects for the construction of a gas turbine power plant, a water treatment and wastewater treatment plant, a plant for the production of technical gases.

“It should be noted that petrochemical projects are capital-intensive and technically complex, which requires certain types of work, including attracting financing, providing raw materials, obtaining licensed technology, providing appropriate infrastructure facilities and marketing finished products. After performance of this work, it is possible to design and build these plants, which takes quite a long time,” – the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Since the beginning of the operation of the NIPT SEZ as of March 1, 2021:

  • the volume of production amounted to about KZT22 billion, including the volume of exports – KZT15.3 billion;
  • the total volume of investments – about KZT830 billion, including private investments – KZT668 billion, budget investments – KZT162 billion;
  • creation of about 3.5 thousand permanent and temporary jobs.
