Chemical Laboratory Opened in Almaty

On May 19, 2025, the Key Chemical Laboratory of SK Ondeu titled “Innovative Chemical and Technological Solutions” was officially inaugurated at the Kazakhstan-British Technical University (KBTU) in Almaty. As part of the event, the parties signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation.

The laboratory’s opening took place within the framework of the International Scientific and Technical Conference “Colloids and Nanotechnologies in Industry” and the business forum “Science and Industry Synergy”, which brought together scientists and experts from Sweden, France, the USA, Germany, the UK, and China. Among the attendees were academicians of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences – members of the Nobel Prize awarding committee.

The newly established laboratory will serve as a platform for the development and implementation of applied scientific solutions in the field of chemistry. Its key objectives include the execution of R&D projects for creating new chemical materials and technologies, commercialization of innovations, participation in national and international grant programs, and preparing young scientists and students for scientific and industrial activities.

This initiative aligns with the strategic course of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aimed at developing high-tech clusters and the non-resource-based sector. The Head of State has repeatedly emphasized the importance of diversifying the economy and supporting the chemical industry as a foundation for deep raw material processing and the production of high value-added products. The chemical sector serves as a critical driver for other industries such as agriculture, mining, metallurgy, and construction.

Thus, the SK Ondeu Key Chemical Laboratory will become an important step towards integrating science and industry, facilitating technology transfer, strengthening the country’s industrial potential, and fostering human capital development.
